SpReAd The Love Gives Back Week 2: Guy of Gisborne

Our first week of STL Gives Back was amazing! Thank you all so much for all the kindnesses that you submitted and, in case you missed it, our winner was Kitty who’ll be getting a paperback copy of In Consequence by Trudy Brasure. Thanks to everyone who entered and a special thanks to Trudy for donating a copy of her novel!

Our giveaways are all fan made items inspired by some of Richard Armitage’s most popular characters. This week’s giveaway, a jet and paper bead multi-strand bracelet, was inspired by Guy of Gisborne and is handmade by me. I’m still finishing it but as a preview, these are some of the materials I’m working with.

Jet beads and parchment paper. Hmmm, how could that say Guy of Gisborne?

Okay, again leave a comment with a kindness that you’ve done or that’s been done for you and your name will be entered into this week’s drawing. Additionally, each kindness generates a $1US matching donation up to $100 to one of the charities supported by Richard Armitage via JustGiving.  We’ll draw a winner on Friday at 5PM Eastern Time. Ready? Go!

Ok, I am ready. Because this story of a kindness just happened. It may clock up a number oof kindnesses in one go :-D. Let me tell you the whole epic story. It has been raining cats and dogs outside and my husband very kindly offered to run down to the shop for me as I had forgotten to buy bread for tomorrow morning’s breakfast. (Kindness 1) Fifteen minutes he was back, as wet as a fish. He came into the sitting room to tell me he had just found a wallet on the street and picked up. He looked through it with me and we found the owner’s name and mobile number in the wallet, along with a student ID, library cards, his bank card (and a condom) (Kindness 2? Just joking.) Mr Guylty rang the owner on his mobile to tell him he had found the wallet. It turned out that the owner was a student and in a secondary level education institute just around the corner from us *right now*. When Mr Guylty asked how he should give the wallet back, owner replied “Can you meet me in front of the school?”. Mr Guylty agreed, hung up and said “cheeky monkey”, but proceeded out the door back into the rain. (Definitely a kindness there!) Meanwhile at home, Guylty herself huffed and said to Master Guylty “Ah, the wallet belongs to a student – and he probably does not realize that one should reward an honest finder with some kind of thank you.” Ten minutes later Mr Guylty was back again, having handed over the wallet to its owner. Who had actually pulled € 2.90 ($ 3) out of his pocket and pressed it onto Mr Guylty saying “I am sorry, that is all I have. Please take it.” (And true, there were no bank notes in the wallet – so kindness #4) So a good ending to a story littered with kindnesses 😉
(Sorry for writing it up so long… just trying to clock up the donations for a good cause…)

A few weeks back, when Richard was first pushing – I hate to say it like that, because he wasn’t ‘pushing’ – but rather, posting his charities, I… well for lack of a better termed – WHINED that the particular time period was financially awful for me. For me, anyone who loves the Salvation Army has a soft place in my heart. (I come from a long line of Salvationist ministers and have seen and participated first hand on the wonderful things that organization does.)

After my whining, Grace – aka Thorinscrown – donated to Richard’s charity in my name.

    you bet I cried.

I arranged to give a friend a hard-to-get treat she loves. I brought roses from the garden to a friend who could use a little joy. I gave a little money to help rehome a dog. I gave some change from the supermarket to the man who begs there every day. I finished an inventory of the art I have stored for a friend for the last two years (free of charge). I am preparing a Spanish-to-English phrase sheet for a friend who wants to learn. Might these add up to a single kindness?

    This week, I baked cookies and took them ’round to my shut-in elderly neighbors… and I also put up my Christmas tree much earlier than I normally would, because one of the ladies has a view of it from her living room. She said it makes her smile, so it’s up. :}

My husband and I were flying and got the jackpot – one seat empty in a row of three so we could spread out and use the central seat for putting stuff (this was charming RyanAir where there isn’t even a seat pocket in front of you for storage and the seats are so close together my husband’s long legs don’t fit). Then the air hostess asked if we would mind moving because there was a couple who weren’t seated together and would like to be… I was very tempted to say no but didn’t. They were pretty happy about it and cuddled throughout the flight.

    Does that count?

I received many kind comments on my Worried blog post regarding my kiddo’s horrendous eye infection, kind texts, e-mails, facebook posts, forum messages from fellow fans and RL friends and family. Hubby made a trip to get tickets for BOFA at the IMAX just so he could text me an uplifting picture of them, two sets of grandparents came bearing toys and milkshakes for the hospitalized kiddo, daughter donated a favorite stuffed toy for brother’s use and colored a nice picture of Elsa from Frozen (he has a crush on that character!) to hang up and brighten the hospital room, Hubby also cooked 2 homemade meals and toted them in so we could occasionally eat something other than cafeteria food, and also made a run to one of our favorite restaurants and surprised me with a delicious diet-breaker tray of enchiladas, and my mom made a wonderful homemade stew and braved a snowstorm and really bad roads to bring it to our house the evening we got home from the hospital so we didn’t have worry about cooking dinner. Been overwhelmed with kindnesses!

My dearest friend in the whole world (she’s 83) called to tell me to stop by her house in passing, that she had something for me. Something for me!!! Homemade jalapeno pimento cheese and homemade chicken salad was my surprise!

(I am enjoying reading all the goodness that’s going on in our world. Thanks so much for all you are doing *kiss kiss*)

While we were out today, we came upon an accident where a man on a scooter ran off the road, hit a drive-way culvert and was laid out on the ground. We stopped and covered him w/ some blankets I keep in my van and waited w/ him until the fire dept and ambulance arrived.

    1. Our friend, who killed a hog yesterday (for you who didn’t grow up in the country, winter temperatures are perfect for hog killin’), to make what can only be referred to as “the best pork sausage in the history of pork sausage,” gave us fresh pork loin steaks when we picked up our sausage order. They’re marinating right now. 😀

    2. Tonight we visited our friend who is in the hospital – hugs and celebrations all around b/c of the miraculous healing in her body!

My head is so thick, I can’t remember my own name half the time. I knew there was another one. When we returned from visiting my sweet friend in the hospital tonight, the light was blinking on the message machine. It was my friend from New England. I’ve never met her except in the Richard Armitage appreciation community on FB. When Richard Armitage and others were at the Anderson Cooper taping in 2012 before AUJ, she was there with her daughter in the audience. Each audience member received free IMAX tickets. She asked RA to autograph the envelope “to Kitty” and mailed the tickets to me. The autograph is nice but the fact that she thought of me means so much more than Himself’s impersonal scribbling. She said in her message tonight that she had me on her mind b/c she was thinking of the things for which she is thankful during this season and called to thank me for our friendship. I wanted to hug the message machine.

A dear RA fan who lives across the seas and reads my blog sent me a delightful letter this week along with 15 quid as a little pressie–she didn’t quite have our address right but they delivered it to my husband’s workplace so all was well in the end. It’s funny, because I had just been yearning to return to Jolly Old England and the British Isles in general and there was good Queen Liz on a banknote in my hand. I was touched and really uplifted by this. I haven’t exchanged the notes yet for American dollars–I am still looking at the pound notes and smiling. ❤

I HAVE to enter my husband and *warning* this post will feature reference to bodily functions.
I have a condition that often goes along with FMS–Irritable Bowel Syndrome, aka spastic colon. It isn’t life threatening, but it is painful, embarrassing and humiliating at times because I don’t always know when or how badly it will strike. I have actually had to buy new slacks and underwear (back when I was still working full-time) because I didn’t make it to the loo in time. 😦
Anyway, I’ve been having a lot of bouts with it and due to breaking my tail bone a few years ago, certain types of physical movements are difficult if not impossible for me. In short, I need assistance. And he has had to provide me directly with that. I know when the man married me almost 30 years ago he never envisioned having to clean my tush for me, but he’s done it and without a word of complaint or disdain. And then this week he told me he had ordered two items to help me when no helping hand was around (I am often stuck here by myself trying to make the best of a bad situation)–a personal portable bidet and another device that looks like some weird sex toy, but is actually designed to help clean one’s personal areas. 😉 This is also a man who used his Amazon gift card for his birthday on meds for one of our dogs and supplements for me. Nothing for himself. He is SUCH an unselfish and kind man and I can only give thanks every day I have him in my life. ❤ And if he finds out I shared this he would blush like crazy. Because he's also very humble. And very invitingly stubbly right now (No Shave November). Remind you of anyone? 😉

I’m not eligible to enter – administrator and all – must keep things on the up and up, but I had to tell about a kindness that my husband did this week.

He has adopted the couple across the street (they are either our age with signs of hard livin’ or slightly older than us) A couple of weeks ago, the wife suffered a massive heart attack and has been hospitalized since – it is evidently still touch and go. My hubs has been extremely attentive to the husband (Don) who is diabetic. This week, hubs, who himself has recently been placed on disability because of an increasingly debilitated back (2 surgeries, metal cages, fused discs – the whole nine yards), had a cortizone injection into his spinal column, under the metal cage which was excruciating, but he was adamant that he would stay across the street to cook Don dinner because he was worried that he wouldn’t eat otherwise and that his blood sugar would be out of control.

Since I have been the powerless witness to his increasing chronic pain over the years, it was an amazing thing to see him so clearly pushing through it on behalf of someone who was hurting both physically and emotionally. We’ve been married over 15 years, but he still manages to surprise me from time to time!
