SpReAd The Love Children’s Book Challenge: REMARKABLE by Lizzie K. Foley

One of the things that I love about children’s books in general is that authors tend to be gleefully absurd, although it may say something about me that my sense of humor is still right around that of the average ten-year-old. Remarkable by Lizzie K. Foley charmed me the moment I saw the blurb on the front cover. I mean, could you resist this?

“Welcome to the Town of Remarkable where Every Day in this Remarkable place filled with Remarkable people is Positively Remarkable for absolutely Everyone*

*except Jane”

Poor Jane Doe. She’s a middle kid, sandwiched between her brilliant painter older brother and her equally brilliant mathematician little sister. She’s also the only student at the public school because her siblings, and all of the other kids in town, attend Remarkable’s School for the Remarkably Gifted. She’s kind of a loner (her own father has “Ask Jane about her day” as Action Item #27 on his remarkably never-ending to-do list) until she meets Remarkable’s very own ten-year-old Criminal Masterminds, the Gimlet Twins. There’s a Lake Monster, too (because of course there is), and a crew of pirates come calling and then it might be up to Jane’s unremarkableness to save the day. This book is laugh-out-loud funny and sweet and anyone who’s ever felt overlooked can definitely relate to Jane. A copy of Remarkable, along with a few other books this week, is being donated to the library on the pediatric floor at my local hospital.

We are blogging all this week and possibly a little beyond to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Other posts include

Saraleee at Saraleee’s blog

If you’d like to participate in the SpReAd The Love Children’s Book Challenge there’s still plenty of time. Just fill out the Contact Form on the About tab and either Obscura or I will get in touch. If you’d prefer to donate a book without blogging just let us know what and where you donated so that we can keep track. An Anonymous Co-Conspirator is donating $50 to one of the charities supported by Richard Armitage via JustGiving in honor of this event and we’d like to thank that person for his/her generosity!
